The Down to Earth Fair is open to the public on Saturday, April 26, 11am-4pm, at Whispering Hills Natural Cemetery and Memorial Nature Preserve at 3550 Mooty Bridge Road in LaGrange.

The informative event will feature tours, live music, complimentary gourmet food truck lunches, exhibits, and local experts to help you get your lawn, estate planning, and final arrangements in order, as part of Whispering Hills’ fourth anniversary celebration.

“The Down to Earth Fair is all about providing practical advice to help you find the peace of mind that comes with getting your estate planning and final arrangements preplanning complete,” explained Ralph Howard, managing partner of Whispering Hills Natural Cemetery and Memorial Nature Preserve. “Come join us at the Down to Earth Fair where you can enjoy golf cart tours of the nature preserve and complimentary gourmet lunch-and-learns on topics ranging from holistic estate planning to simplifying your lawn care, and the national trend toward natural burials and cemeteries.”

More than 60% of Georgians and Americans are strongly considering a natural burial, according to a 2023 study by the National Funeral Directors Association. Nearly 200 families from Georgia, Alabama, and across the South and beyond have already chosen Whispering Hills for a loved one passed or as part of their own end-of-life preplanning.

You can dig into gardening and planting tips with environmental caretakers, while you also tend to your estate and funeral preplanning with local experts presenting and exhibiting at the fair.

Exhibitors and presenters include the UGA Master Gardeners, Campen Estate Planning, K Glow Essentials, Higgins Funeral Home, Grace Transitions, the Middle Chattahoochee Sierra Club, Willowood Garden, Traveling Light Emporium, the Optimist Club of LaGrange, Mackey Wilson Jennings Funeral Home, and Whispering Hills.

Local trio, the Liberty Hills String Band will perform a broad range of Americana hits from the Marshall Tucker Band, Dan Fogelberg, the Beatles, Duke Ellington, and more. B’s Meat Market food truck will be there serving up  complimentary gourmet menu of signature burgers, pulled pork BBQ, garden salads and tots, with sweet tea and lemonade.

“It’s been so gratifying to see so many families across Georgia, Alabama and the region cherish this natural cemetery and nature preserve,” noted Howard. “Once people come here and explore Whispering Hills, they quickly connect with the beauty and peacefulness in the forest and meadows. Many families will be at the Down to Earth Fair to share why they’ve chosen this special place for loved ones passed and as part of their own plan.”

Edith Merritt of Opelika, Alabama often visits her husband Wayne’s final resting place overlooking the meadow at Whispering Hills. His name is engraved on a tribute stone she selected from the nature preserve, and a second stone marks her future resting place.

“Before I found Whispering Hills, I didn’t know what to do with my husband’s ashes. They sat on a shelf in my home for nearly two years,” shared Merritt, who will speak at the Down to Earth Fair about her love for this land. “We are truly blessed to have such a beautiful natural cemetery in Georgia. It’s a decision and place that has brought me peace of mind and closure, and it’s an incredible setting where families actually want to visit their loved ones, surrounded by the serenity and beauty of the forest, walking trails, and fields filled with flowers.”
